Get Yourself Together: The Summer of 1983
In the words of The Fixx… “One thing leads to another…” and then you have a 2 hour playlist when it’s supposed to be less than 100 minutes. Fuck the rules! I made them up after all. How am I supposed to not include a song by reggae pioneer John Holt that I have not previously heard about police in helicopters confiscating ganja crops… called “Police in Helicopter”… or Whodini’s “Haunted House of Rock” for that matter? Do we really need two tracks from the Risky Business soundtrack? Fuck yes we do! Turns out 1983 was a fun year for music… What a surprise!
On a personal note, I was only 11 in the summer of 1983 and I don’t think I was spending a lot of time in arcades on my own at that time. I want to mention, however, that Don Bluth’s Dragon’s Lair came out in June and I would go on to spend an inordinate amount of time (and quarters) losing at that game in my early teens.
