Everything You’ve Done Wrong: The Summer of 1996
1996 was the summer that I stopped working at Sub Pop. I had had the lofty title of “Vice President in Charge of Tour Coordination” and, at 24, was making what seemed like a lot of money. Unfortunately, the job required me to be on top of a lot of details and, at 24 (and with undiagnosed ADHD), I was not very good at that. Also, I’m still a bit too risk averse to want to accompany a band as a tour manager and/or drive 15' vans around Dorchester. Regardless, my time there was a lot of fun and I got to be involved with some truly special albums and performers. In truth, I didn’t really want to leave (though it was the right decision by everyone at the time) as evidenced by the fact that I soon spent the better part of a day with my friend Ed pretending that Sebadoh was a metal band while they filmed the music video for “Ocean.” Pretty sure our faces don’t appear in this video but I bet our tired little devil horns do.
This playlist is very late because I got hung up on trying to whittle it down below 2 hours but I quit that so it’s a little overlong. Feel free to skip “Sell Out” or “Novocaine fo the Soul” if you want to avoid having them stuck in your head forever. And please do skip “Piss Up a Rope” (unless you are a Ween fan of course). Don’t skip “Criminal” it’s definitely time to listen to that again…
